Who we are

Welcome to Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery, located in the beautiful and historic surroundings of the University of Essex.

Our purpose-built nursery offers a stimulating and caring environment for children to learn, play and discover the world around them.

We are open all year round and provide childcare and education for children aged three months to five years, as well as a summer holiday club for children aged five to eight  years old. We welcome all day nursery applications whether you are a University student, University staff or a member of the public.

Our history

Being located at the University of Essex, Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery benefits greatly from a unique setting, contributing to the high quality of childcare and education provision your child receives.

We have been proud members of the University of Essex’s global community since 1978 and we make the most of what the campus has to offer. Our nursery location is ideal for the children to experience since we have natural surroundings and wildlife in our beautifully picturesque parkland. Alongside is the campus grounds and variety of culture offering the children a great way to explore a whole new world of play and discovery.

Why are we different
  • We have a dedicated and caring team of practitioners made up of early year teachers, early year practitioners, forest school practitioners and an inclusion officer
  • Our nursery is divided up across 6 different rooms which are grouped by age. This enables us to dedicate specific care and learning for every age
  • Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery follows high quality educational practice, which is overseen by graduate Early Years Professionals
  • We embrace the University’s global community and welcome the opportunity to explore, explain and celebrate different cultures
  • Based in Wivenhoe Park, we take full advantage of our beautiful surroundings with regular organised walks and activities
  • We are an official forest school, with qualified forest school practitioners
  • All of our rooms have direct access to our recently updated, naturally resourced outdoor play area, where free flow play is supported
  • Our healthy and balanced menus are developed by the qualified chefs and nutritionists from The Professional Nursery Kitchen
  • We hold ‘mini graduations’ for children in their last year of nursery to coincide with the University’s mid-July graduation celebrations
