A letter to the future

 In News

The past few years have been like no other, with education, learning, friendships, and our everyday lives turned upside down. Which is why it is so special, that Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery could finally come together, with families, to mark the end of this extraordinary period in our history, and to celebrate together the Queens 70th Jubilee.

Over the past few weeks the nursery has worked really hard in creating and choosing pieces for our time capsule that was buried on University of Essex grounds on Friday 27th May. In 50 years’ time, Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery will be inviting children, just like those who attended the burial, who are part of the Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery family, to dig up the capsule. The hard work in creating items marks this point in history, will help give these children a glimpse into what life was like at Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery in 2022.

We are excited for the future members of the nursery to discover this capsule and learn how the nursery was in 2022. We have included a small extract from our capsule letter:

“Nursery life is full of fun!  Staff spend their days listening to the children and watching them play to help us plan activities and adventures. The children enjoy their time in the garden and especially look forward to their days exploring the University woodlands as part of their forest school curriculum.  We all enjoy visiting the sports centre on campus for dance or exercise classes and we have all been learning Spanish with Millie ‘Hola Amigos’

We try to make the children aware of the world around them. For example last week we talked about how plastic is bad for our environment and we tried to count how many plastic wrappers and bottles we have used in our homes and at nursery.

Nursery promises are important to us; they help the children to respect each other and our surroundings. We share them throughout the nursery classes.  Our older children can tell us what they are:

*Be kind and gentle to each other

*Share and take turns

*Listen to each other

*Take care of our books and toys

*Use our walking feet indoors”

What do you think will change over 50 years?
